Memphis Man Arrested for DUI With Children in the Back Seat
January 2, 2012
A Memphis Tennessee, man was arrested last Wednesday for DUI with his two children in the backseat of the car. According to Channel 3 News, the accident occurred on the off ramp of I-240 at Getwell.
Officers say they found the man in his car parked in the wrong lane of the exit ramp. He appeared to be intoxicated as he explained that he had ran out of gas and pushed the vehicle to that point. The man failed sobriety tests at more than twice the legal limit to be driving. It was then that officers found the man’s one and two-year-old children in the backseat of the vehicle.
A background search on the man found that he had been arrested on charges of DUI about a month prior to the incident.
The US Department of Health and Human Services says that 37 percent of all fatal traffic accidents are in some way related to alcohol. They estimate that nearly 2,000 individuals lost their lives in 2009 to alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents. The good news–these kinds of accidents have been on a steady decline over the last twenty years.
The Memphis DUI victim attorneys with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers encourage motorists to keep Tennessee highways safe by never getting behind the wheel if you have been drinking. The decision could not only save you the estimated $10,000 in fines and fees a DUI will cost you, but could save a life.
