Mississippi boat accidents limit river traffic
April 8, 2008
The Clarion Ledger reported that there are now new limits on traffic on the Mississippi River after two Mississippi boating accidents.
The Mississippi boat accidents occurred when vessels had problems maneuvering their barges in high water at the bridge, which is near a four-lane interstate.
One 19-barge tow struck the left descending bank pier of the old bridge, scattering the barges and causing the towboat to take on some water.
A similar Mississippi boating accident occurred the day before. There were no lost barges or spills in either Mississippi boat accident.
As the Mississippi River continues to rise, authorities have been more careful about monitoring southbound traffic at the bridge.
