Warm weather increases chances of Mississippi boating accident

While warmer weather is inviting to boaters and fishermen in South Mississippi, the change in seasons can bring an increase in Mississippi boating accidents and deaths, according to The Sun Herald.

Marine patrol officers are urging patrons of the Mississippi waters to wear their life jackets.

Public safety groups that specialize in water safety are adamant that simple precautions can save lives and prevent boat accidents.

Seven people died and 31 were injured in Mississippi boating accidents in 2006. National statistics show that boat-related accidents begin increasing in April.

Authorities recommend filing a float plan with a responsible friend or family member that includes the place you plan to depart, where you expect to travel, the time you expect to return and the names of everyone on board.
